Betrayed by a constantly-shifting map, the Captain, both trapped and trapping, had nothing to admire, but a square sun and a slate blue pelt and a pile of ivory which amassed itself.
This choir is twelve-strong and barely alive but they recall old carols. Old prayers.
The cabin boy won't last the winter.

I'm trying hard to remember,
What happened last December,
Was Christmas that much colder?
It's not the same when you're older,
The warm glow of the lights,
Against the deep dark nights,
Any excuse,
To cure the winter blues,
It's getting earlier each year,
Shop displays and paraphernalia,
An early warning sign,
But when it's closer to the time,
You'll see the late night rush,
People panic and they push,
With shopping bags and crates like ants,
With ten times their weight,
And then with doubts they're haunted,
"Was that the one they wanted?",
It's tradition we all protect,
We want nothing less than perfect.
It isn't as pretty as the picture on the Christmas card you gave me,
I'm planning on sleeping in on Christmas Day, I'm looking forward to it greatly,
I know we're not religious but that's ok,
'Cause Christmas isn't just about the day,
I don't care if the Turkey's over-cooked and we go hungry,
I'll fill up on Christmas cheer, aided by your company,
The ideal snow has turned to rainy weather,
But that's ok as long as we're together.

December 21st is the shortest day, which means there’s not much light
This makes it the perfect time of year for the creatures of the night
And though normally we’d be inside, sheltering from the weather
For some reason this festive season keeps us out later than ever
The temperature’s dropping and there’s no stopping
Them from searching for prey during late night shopping
And so while we feast on meats and cheeses
They rise from the dead, a bit like Jesus
I love Christmas
But I hate vampires
So wrap your neck in scarves to avoid getting frostbitten
And grip a stake, or holy cross, firmly with your mittens
If you’re concerned, be prepared and try the thing that works most
Garlic goes incredibly well with a Christmas day roast
If you give your girlfriend the twilight box-set, you’re playing into their hands
Get Blade or Buffy instead and ignore her Christmas list of demands
Vampires shouldn’t be lusted after, they shouldn’t be respected
They should be feared, because they are evil resurrected

Angels and children’s toys are singing this noel
But all i want to hear is the sound of those sleigh bells
Now Dasher, now Dancer, now Prancer and Vixen
On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen
To the top of the porch, to the top of the wall
Now dash away, dash away, dash away all
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer
